If you’ve bought a Chromebook for school, or you’ve been given one, then you might not realize that a Chromebook is often more than just the hardware itself. Chromebooks come with a nice set of freebies called “perks”, and if you haven’t checked them out, you might be missing out.
Let’s look at what perks are, how to check which you qualify for, and where to get them.
Chromebooks Come With Sweet Perks
Every Chromebook, once purchases, unlocks an awesome selection of of promotional offers. All you have to do to claim them, is visit theGoogle Perks Pageand check which Perks you like. Just click the “Get Perk” button on the ones you want and follow the instructions, if any. I gota whole year of Google Gemini Proincluded with my laptop which almost completely paid back for the cost of the device!
There’s usually at least one free game, and months of various Google services. There’s almost certainly some nice Google cloud storage available to you, and third-party app trials that can help you out for a few months and save you a decent amount of money.
Acer Chromebook Plus Spin 514
A 2-in-1 laptop-tablet hybrid from Acer that runs on ChromeOS and includes cloud-based AI features.
Perks Rotate Over Time
While some perks are fairly static and predictable, many of them will only be around for a short time and then will be replaced by something else. There’s no set time or anything, but it’s worth checking back every month or two to see if there are new perks available. You might get an email from Google letting you know that new perks have been added, but in my experience so far that’s not guaranteed.
Keep in mind that most perks have a redemption deadline, and you’ll need to be signed in on your Chromebook with a Google account to claim them. Once claimed, you’re able to usually use the subscription or credit on any device, not just your Chromebook. For example, I can log into Gemini Pro on any device. The subscription was unlocked by my Chromebook, but it’s linked to my Google account, not the laptop.
There Are Many Great Perks to Help Your Studies!
Given how much of an impact generative AI like ChatGPT has had on how people work and study, any offer of free premium AI access is worth grabbing. However, be very careful how you use it for school! Your school will likely have very specific policies at this point detailing how to use AI responsibly, so do your research and stay out of trouble!
Don’t Feel Compelled to Claim Them All
If you’re not sure, try them out, and then decide if they’re worth paying for long-term, but don’t fall for a marketing trick and then end up with stuff you don’t need cluttering up your Chromebook experience.
That said, every Chromebook perk that actually proves useful to you effectively lowers thecost of your Chromebook! If you add up all the subscriptions
