Summary
These days, the most you can get on a regular-sized smartphone is a 5,000 mAh battery. While that’s pretty good, that’s now gotten boring, hasn’t it? One company is trying to double down and has just launched a 7,000 mAh battery, which might be enough to end your battery life complaints forever.
Realme, which is a sister company to OnePlus, has just launched the Realme 15 and Realme 15 Pro models in India. And the standout feature in both models here is the inclusion of a massive 7,000 mAh battery, which is 40% bigger than the 5,000 mAh batteries that we can typically find in most standard-format smartphones these days. While battery life is not “bad” on most current smartphones, a 7,000 mAh battery could actually be the tipping point to reach “true” all-day battery life, regardless of how hard you use your phone. In fact, this might last you more than a day. According to Realme, you should be left with 50% of battery life by the time you go to bed—while I’m not supporting this statement until we can actually corroborate it, you might be able to get away with not charging your phone immediately into the next day.
To mitigate the potentially long charging times for such a large battery, Realme has equipped both handsets with 80W wired fast charging, which should ensure your phone is fully topped up in less than two hours, though Realme didn’t provide any specific numbers. What I’m most surprised about this, though, is that the phone isn’t really any thicker than phones with smaller batteries. The 15 Pro appears to be 7.69mm thick, which is probably actually thinner than a lot of phones with smaller batteries out there. We’re not sure if Realme did some sacrifices to keep this as thin as it is, but it’s a nice touch—larger batteries typically require the phone to be considerably thicker to accommodate the larger battery.
As for other specs, the Realme 15 Pro 5G is powered by the new Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 SoC, while the standard Realme 15 5G utilizes a MediaTek Dimensity 7300+ chipset. They both feature a 6.8-inch 1.5K AMOLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate, and they apparently go up to a blinding 6,500 nits of brightness. The Realme 15 Pro is equipped with a dual-camera setup featuring a 50-megapixel Sony IMX896 primary sensor and a 50-megapixel ultrawide shooter. The standard Realme 15, on the other hand, has a 50-megapixel Sony IMX882 main camera paired with an 8-megapixel ultrawide lens. Notably, the Pro model supports 4K video recording at 60fps on both its front and rear cameras, which is extremely power-intensive—thank the bigger battery for making this possible without making your battery disappear.
The Realme 15 starts at Rs. 25,999, which is just about $301 in US dollars. The Realme 15 Pro, on the other hand, starts at Rs. 31,999, or about $370. Both phones are not available in the US and never will be, but maybe OnePlus will take a few pages from this for its next US-bound models.
