Samsung now cells ‘Certified Re-newed’ Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, and Galaxy S24 Ultra phones. The devices are refurbished with new batteries, “assembled by Samsung engineers,” and sold at a discount compared to getting a brand-new Galaxy S25 phone.
The company is pitching its Certified Re-Newed Galaxy S24 series as budget and eco-friendly alternatives to the latestGalaxy S25,Galaxy S25+, andGalaxy S25 Ultra. They’re cheaper than the new models, and you’re buying a phone that would have otherwise been stripped down for parts or thrown in a landfill.
Samsung’s program takes old phones (mainly from trade-in programs), replaces the original battery and any other damaged components with genuine parts, and tests all the features are working as intended. The phones also get a newIMEI number, so you don’t have to worry about carrier blocks and other issues that can sometimes come from buying used phones. The phones have a one-year warranty, and you can optionally buySamsung Care+to cover accidental damage, orSamsung Care+ with Theft and Lossto cover thefts.
However, the software support remains identical for the Certified Re-Newed phones. Samsung promisedseven years of OS and security updatesfor the S24 series, and since those phones have been out for about a year, there’s six years of support left. That’s still a long time before you have to worry about missing important security fixes, though.
Pricing and Alternatives
The baseGalaxy S24is $620 for the 128GB model, or $670 for the 256GB storage option. The largerGalaxy S24+is $800 for 256GB storage, or $920 for 512GB storage. Finally, theGalaxy S24 Ultrawith an S Pen is $1,020 for 256GB storage, or $1,140 for the 512GB option.
Those are good deals, especially considering there areso few differencesbetween the S24 and S25 series. The S25 is usually on sale foraround $700, and the S25+ is typicallyaround $900. You’re saving about $100 and gettingalmostthe exact same phone.
Samsung Galaxy S24 Certified Re-Newed
The Samsung Galaxy S24 may be the smallest in the line, but it has big-time processing power and a fantastic camera, perfect for selfies, group shots, and more.
There’s also theGalaxy S24 FEto consider, which is Samsung’s current budget flagship in the United States. It has a 6.7-inch screen (about the same as the S24+) and three cameras, and even though it started at $650 for 128GB storage, it hasgone on sale for $500at least once.
Unfortunately, the color options with the Certified Re-Newed phones are limited. The Galaxy S24 and S24+ are only available in the standard Onyx Black color, and the S24 Ultra is only sold in Titanium Black. You’ll have to resort to cases and skins if you want flashy colors.
Yesterday’s Galaxy
This isn’t the first time Samsung has started selling refurbished versions of last year’s phones. Following the release of the Galaxy S24,Samsung added all three Galaxy S23 models to its Certified Re-Newed Program. The phones also had the latest One UI 6.1 update pre-installed, but that’s not possible this time around with the refurbished S24 phones, sinceOne UI 7 is still on hold.
The prices for the refurbished S23 phones were almost the same, too. The S23 started at $619 for 128GB storage, the S23+ started at $769 with 128GB storage, and the S24 Ultra started at $919 for 128GB storage.
