MagSafe charging stands tend to have a super-sterile modernist design. If you go on Amazon, you’ll see that they’re all just big plastic obelisks or skinny metal rods—no color, no flavor, no fun. Thankfully, there are at least a handful of people on this planet who have a real sense of personality. EBengineering, an engineer who created a3D-printable cassette tape charging standfor the iPhone and Apple Watch, is one of those people.
The Cassette MagSafe Stand is extremely straightforward. It’s just a 3D-printable case that looks like an old-school cassette tape. It’s got a cutout for your MagSafe and Apple Watch chargers, plus cable routing to maintain a clean look on your desk or tabletop. Your MagSafe charger sits at the top of the assembly, while your Apple Watch charger sits in a pop-out module that comes out the side of the stand.
Funny enough, the pop-out Apple Watch charger is actually one of the coolest parts of this build. Stick a pencil in the cassette sprocket, turn it like you would when fixing a loose cassette tape back in the day, and the Apple Watch charger moves in and out of the 3D-printed enclosure. A small “pencil” is actually included in the project file for this purpose, but any pencil should work (or a clear plastic Bic pen, which is actually a better fit when dealing with real tapes).
