Nintendo has quietly announced the price for a few of itsupcoming upgrade packs, likeKirby and The Forgotten LandandMario Party Jamboree, and they’re more expensive than fans could’ve imagined.
Nintendo previously shook up the gaming sphere with the announcement of its new sliding-scale price model for Switch 2 titles. As such, Nintendo has been quietly revealing the price for some of its upcoming upgrade packs, which allow original Switch titles to be played on Switch 2 with enhanced fidelity, features, and other exclusive content.
How Much Are Nintendo Switch 2 Games?
Most games for the original Switch cost $59.99, exceptThe Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdomat $69.99.
However, most Switch 2 games will cost up to $79.99, depending on the title. This includes original Switch games and their Switch 2 upgrade packs likeKirby and The Forgotten LandandMario Party Jamboree($59.99 for the base game plus the $19.99 upgrade), and the standalone Switch 2 launch titleMario Kart World.
However, the Switch 2 gameDonkey Kong Bananzawill be priced ten bucks less at $69.99.

Why Is This Pricing Method So Confusing?
All the Switch 2 upgrade packs bring new features to the original games. For example, bothZeldatitles are getting new features like Zelda Notes on Switch 2, andThe Forgotten Land’s upgrade includes a remixed campaign calledStar-Crossed World.
That’s all good, but the pricing gets more confusing becauseZelda’s upgrades are bundled with the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack, which means you don’t have to pay for the upgrade if you have a subscription to the service. However, none of the other upgrade packs are available this way.
Nintendo is using a sliding-scale pricing model for Switch 2 games. While most first-party original Switch games cost $59.99 (except forThe Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, which costs $69.99), for Switch 2, Nintendo is cranking the ceiling up to $79.99 (at least so far).
After briefly delaying U.S. pre-orders,Switch 2 pre-orders eventually went live, and more importantly, at the announced price of $449.99, bypassing tariff taxes for the time being. But the Japanese game maker has already informed consumers that demands may not be met globally, as stocks have begun to sell out overseas or orders have been canceled outright.
If you haven’t already secured a Nintendo Switch 2 through pre-orders, it may be vastly more difficult to secure one when it debuts worldwide on June 5. The initial run of pre-orders has already been quite messy. But if you are looking to avoid the absurd prices for some of these newer titles, it may be best to look for bundle deals that avoid the extra charge.
