Windows Copilot is a generative AI that you can use to perform various tasks. However, if you don’t like Microsoft’s approach to adding AI to your computer or prefer a simpler and more user-friendly interface, you can quickly disable Windows Copilot using the following methods.
How to Remove Windows Copilot From the Taskbar
you may launchWindows Copilotby pressing the Windows+C key together or by clicking on its icon in the Taskbar. However, if you prefer to use the shortcut key and keep your Taskbar clutter-free, you can remove Windows Copilot from it.
To get started hiding Copilot, press the Windows+i key to open the “Settings” app and navigate to Personalization > Taskbar. In the Taskbar window, turn off the toggle next to “Copilot (preview).”
Once you’ve disabled the toggle, Windows Copilot will be removed from the Taskbar. If it’s still there,restart your computerto see the changes.
Keep in mind, though, that Copilot will still be running in the background. Use one of the following methods if you want to disable it completely.
How to Disable Windows Copilot Using the Group Policy Editor
If you’re not going to use Windows Copilot, you can completely disable it. The quickest way to do this is by using theGroup Policy Editor, which is available only onWindows 11 Proand Enterprise editions. If you’re a Windows 11 Home user, skip down to the Registry Editor method.
To disable Windows Copilot using the Group Policy Editor, open the “Start” menu, type “Group Policy Editor” and press “Enter.” Now, head towards the following location:
Right-clickthe “Turn off Windows Copilot” policy in the right pane and choose “Edit.”
In the policy edit window, choose “Enabled.” Then, click “Apply” and “OK.”
Now, restart your Windows 11 PC. Upon restart, you’ll see that Windows Copilot is no longer active on your computer, and you can’t access it even by pressing its shortcut key.
How to Disable Windows Copilot Using the Registry Editor
Ifyou’re a Windows 11 Home user, you can disable Windows Copilot using the Registry Editor.
Editing the registry involves risks, as one wrong edit can make your system unstable. Therefore, make sure toback up the registryandcreate a restore pointbefore proceeding with the below steps.
To begin disabling it for the current user, open the “Start” menu, type “Registry Editor” in the search bar, and press “Enter.” In the Registry Editor, navigate to the following location:
Right-click the “Windows” key, hover over “New,” and select “Key.” Name the new key “WindowsCopilot.”
Right-click the “WindowsCopilot” key, hover over “New,” and select “DWORD (32-bit) Value.” Name the new value “TurnOffWindowsCopilot.”
Double-click the “TurnOffWindowsCopilot” value in the right pane, type “1” in the Value data field, select “Hexadecimal” for the Base, and click “OK.”
After that, restart your computer to see the changes. In the future, if you want to enable Windows Copilot, type “0” in the Value data field and click “OK.” Alternatively, you can delete the registry key.
Disable Copilot for All Users
The above steps will only disable Windows Copilot in the user account that you’re currently using. If you want to turn it off for all the users, navigate to the following location:
Now, repeat the above steps, creating the “WindowsCopilot” key under the “Windows” key. Then, create the “TurnOffWindowsCopilot” value in the “WindowsCopilot” key, set its value as “1” and Base as “Hexadecimal.” Then, click “OK” to save the changes.
