Nintendo has officially announced price increases for its original Nintendo Switch family of systems and various related products in the United States, effective July 18, 2025. While Nintendo has not yet specified the exact new prices, we were able to get a sneak peek thanks to a quick price change at Target.
This move was attributed to “market conditions” by the company. While Nintendo did not specify exactly what price the Switch would rise to, Target may have already given us a good idea, as the store raised its prices for about 10 to 20 minutes on its website. Below were the prices we saw while looking at Target options:
Keep in mind that Walmart just increased the price of another Nintendo item listed below, so it may not be the price it was when writing this. Since Target also went up and down, retailers may be prepping their prices for increases, and these could be temporary mistakes.
The affected products primarily include the original Nintendo Switch, the Nintendo Switch OLED Model, and the more portable Nintendo Switch Lite. This is a pretty big deal because the Nintendo Switch has kept pretty consistent with its price since it released in 2017.
Beyond the consoles themselves, Nintendo has confirmed that “select Nintendo Switch accessories” will also get price adjustments. These are for the Nintendo Switch 2 and include select amiibo figures. Only one item was named specifically, the Nintendo Sound Clock: Alarmo. Thatbriefly increasedfrom $110 to $135, and may return to that price in the future.
Nintendo has clarified that the Nintendo Switch 2 system, along with both physical and digital Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 games, and Nintendo Switch Online memberships, will remain at their current prices for now. However, the company’s official statement includes a message stating that “price adjustments may be necessary in the future” for these products as well.
Nintendo Switch OLED
The premium Nintendo Switch experience features a brighter and more colorful OLED display that offers better contrast, twice the internal storage, better speakers, and a dock with a built-in Ethernet port.
The phrase “market conditions” used by Nintendo to explain these price hikes is likely some reference to the ongoing geopolitical and economic pressures, particularly the impact of trade tariffs. Tariffskilled off Nintendo Switch 2 pre-ordersand evenstopped Razer sales for a bit. So it shouldn’t be surprising that Nintendo has to react to increased prices to ship to the United States.
Either way, it’s a good idea to buy a Nintendo Switch now before the price changes. You can get a Nintendo Switch OLED for$349 at Amazon, which is a great deal compared to what it will be in a few days when prices go up.
