FromForza Horizon 5finally landing on PlayStation to fresh titles from up-and-coming developers likeClair Obscur: Expedition 33, April is brimming with must-play games. Here’s a quick look at the top upcoming releases you won’t want to miss.

Platforms

PC

After the disastrous launch ofThe Last of Us Part Ion PC and numerous performance issues, the game was largely fixed with patches, allowing PC gamers to finally experience one of the best single-player stories of all time. Now, the PS5 remaster of the controversialPart IIis also set to hit digital storefronts such asSteamandEpic Games.

The story is set five years afterPart Iand follows Ellie, who is now a young teenager. Without revealing too much, the story’s emotional core is very much in focus here, and it’s still very much the same action-adventure where you fight against loads of infected

PC, Xbox Series X|S

Compulsion Games, the studio behindWe Happy Few, is finally releasing a new game withSouth of Midnight. This enthralling action-adventure is set in a mysterious and magical rendition of the South filled with monsters drawn from Southern Folklore.

You explore the world as Hazel, a Weaver who uses spells to defeat formidable supernatural foes. By the way, the trailer above isn’t lagging—the cutscenes are intentionally slowed down to emulate stop-motion, giving them a completely unique and distinctive feel.

PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One

Commandos: Originsmarks the long-awaited return to theCommandosfranchise, a series of real-time tactics games. You go on missions in a WWII setting and control six characters, each with unique skills.

Your objectives range from sabotage to rescue operations, as you carefully plan and execute moves to outsmart your enemies. In addition to the single-player mode,Commandos: Originsalso provides you with the option to play co-op with friends online or via split-screen—perfect for a couch gaming session.

PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S

The Talos Principleis a popular first-person puzzle game that takes some inspiration from thePortalgames to create something new and way more challenging. The original was released in 2014, and while its graphics still hold up, the trailer for itsremaster,The Talos Principle: Reawakened, showcases how impressive games made in Unreal Engine 5 look, bringing it up to the visual level ofThe Talos Principle 2.

It’s not just a graphical update, though.Reawakenedintroduces some new content, such as the “In the Beginning” chapter. Whether it’s been a few years since you’ve played it or you’re completely new to the game, this remaster offers the best way to experience this classic puzzle game.

Crashlands 2is a vibrant open-world survival game with a strong emphasis on crafting, base building, and exploration. Unlike the more sandbox-style survival games likeMinecraft,Crashlands 2has a more structured experience. It features numerous alien species whose stories are waiting for you to uncover.

Butterscotch Shenanigans is one of my favorite indie studios, as they make pretty good games. While the studio primarily focuses on mobile platforms, the originalCrashlandsreceived a Steam release, so it’s exciting to see that the long-awaited sequel is coming to PC as well.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33is a turn-based JRPG set in a fantasy version of Belle Époque France. The graphics and combat look impressive, but the story is where the heart of the game truly lies.

Every year, the Paintress paints a number in the sky, and everyone of that age dies the following year. Your team goes on an expedition to destroy the Paintress once and for all to save humanity—or, at the very least, the poor 33-year-olds. I’m eager to see the story unfold!

PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S

Fatal Furyis an old Japanese fighting game series that only ’90s kids will likely remember, as the last mainline entry was released all the way back in 1999. Interestingly, you might recognize some of its characters, as they’ve appeared in other games likeStreet Fighter 6,Tekken 7, andSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Fatal Furyis set to make a strong comeback withFatal Fury: City of the Wolves, which nails the feel of the classics, but with modern visuals. The game will feature a few familiar guest appearances fromStreet Fightercharacters Chun-Li and Ken. However, the most unexpected cameo is undoubtedly Cristiano Ronaldo, one of the most famous soccer players of all time and the most followed person on Instagram.

Maybe it’s just me, but I feel like RTS (real-time strategy) games used to be significantlymore prevalent in the past. Other than the occasional gem likeIron Harvest, they’re few and far between.

Fortunately,Tempest Risingcould make a big splash in this forgotten genre. It’s set in an alternate 1997 where the Cuban Missile Crisis escalated into nuclear war, resulting in WWIII. The game draws heavy inspiration from games likeCommand & Conquer. To add to its credibility,Tempest Risingfeatures music by Frank Klepacki, an award-winning composer who worked on theCommand & Conquerfranchise.

PS5

Days Gone Remasteredcontinues Sony’s trend of remastering PS4 games for the PS5 by updating graphics and adding a few minor features. AlthoughDays Gonewas originally released in 2019 and isn’t that old, it’s still nice to see a remaster. More importantly, there’s a good chance Sony is testing the waters for a sequel by gauging player interest.

If you haven’t playedDays Gonebefore, it’s an open-world zombie action game that emphasizes the player’s relationship with their motorcycle, which requires regular fuel fill-ups and repairs. While the original was alsoreleased for PC, the remaster will be available exclusively for the PS5 and PS5 Pro.

Forza Horizon 5is one of the best simcade racers of all time. You race through Mexico in a variety of different game modes and limited-time events, experience changing seasons withForza’s dynamic weather system, and collect hundreds of highly detailed cars.

The franchise has long been associated with the Xbox, but since it largelylost the console wars, it seems Xbox is finally opening up by bringing one of its best games to the PlayStation 5.
